Your Kid’s Awesome Brain

According to the theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance, each side of the brain controls different types of thinking.

A child’s right brain is activated when engaged in creative writing!

Children are growing up in a highly technological society, and at a time when our educational system values standardized testing above all else. For so many, the left-brain is highly stimulated all the time. When young people develop their left-brain thinking at the expense of their right-brain thinking, they will have a less balanced experience of themselves in all areas. We WRiTE BRAiNERS simply want to keep right brains activated and engaged, even when authoring a book using the WRiTE BRAiN APP!

If we raise children to use their whole mind, they will be more equipped to not only understand their emotions, but to manage them.

When our kids grow up, they might enter the workforce. They will work for and with others, they will launch their own businesses, they will teach in our schools, they will run for political office, they will form personal and professional partnerships, and many will become parents.

Resilience, creativity, flexibility, intuition, and intentionality are all skills that will increase their effectiveness in their lives. Life’s difficulties will be easier to navigate.

If young people understand how to think and to integrate emotion with analysis for problem solving, they will have an emotional intelligence that will pay off throughout their lives.

How writing by hand makes kids smarter

Younger Americans are typing or texting more and writing less, even in school — and that’s a problem when it comes to brain development By The Week Staff | October 6, 2010 Source: http://goo.gl/oOAJo3 Most grade-school children are spending only one hour a week on penmanship. Attention, Students: Put Your Laptops Away

WRiTE BRAiN BOOKS are richly illustrated, textless books, with lines on the pages, ready for any writer's content. They are designed to ignite and inspire creativity and imagination in kids of all ages. Our books enable kids to write their own stories, publish beautiful hardcover copies, and build a personal library of self-authored books.

At WRiTE BRAiN Books, we're firm believers in the power of "Yes!". Our books communicate, "Yes!" to kids. Yes, you have an imagination. Yes, we're interested in what you see and think. Yes, we want to read the story as you imagine it to be inside your head. You are allowed to be messy, to be expressive, to find your voice, to share your ideas with others. We provide children with wordless books so they can express themselves using their own words. There's no right or wrong approach. We also foster the art of writing by hand, which is quickly vanishing, and with it, that deeply measured process of thinking and doing. We believe WRiTE BRAiN Books connect children to their inner voice, and encourage more reflection and less distraction. They provide a much needed balance to "TECHTIVITIES," which according to many studies, are overwhelming our children's brains. Our driving philosophy is simple: self-expression boosts self-esteem. This equation provides the basis for the work we do. Our books encourage creating and expressing by using imagination, which unlocks so many other life skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and innovation. This is why WBB aligns with Common Core. We're part of a magnificent plan to grow our children into resourceful, smart, happy people.

For Parents

Hi Parents of WRITE BRAIN BOOKS Authors!

If you’ve received a Write Brain Book in the mail, or if you bought it in a store, you’re about to witness the birth of a new author. Your Child!

Here are some helpful hints to make the writing go smoothly:

  1. Use the Author’s Guide to help your child write their book.
  2. Brainstorm with your child by building upon what they say.
  3. Use a thesaurus to seek out more descriptive language if you both get stuck.
  4. Create an outline of the story: this will help organize your child’s creative thoughts as he/she figures out a sequence for the narrative to match the illustrations in the book.
  5. The “authors” can write the story directly into their softcover book or they can use practice sheets to write a draft or two first!
  6. If your child wants to keep what he/she wrote private, let him/her know that it’s okay. Eventually your child will probably want to share it.
  7. Check spelling as best as you can, but remember that some mistakes may be intentional.
  8. You and your child can publish the book by uploading the story HERE.
  9. Help your child write a bio for the back of the completed book and pick an awesome photo to upload next to the Author’s Bio.
  10. Now you are ready to ORDER & PUBLISH your WRiTE BRAiN BOOK!

Testimonial

“WRiTE BRAiN allows kids to be creative and use their own voice, and what is more important at this age than to be able to use your own voice and your own imagination and creativity, and put that down in something that you can hold tangibly and say, ‘This is me!'”

“We are raising incredible digital natives, they’re capable of doing things I’ll never be able to do. I want to honor that. On the other hand, what happens when you are finding answers digitally, putting things together digitally, is that you’re developing fast-processing skills at the expense of slow-processing skills and in slow-processing very important things happen; judgment, empathy, reflection, values.”

The kids LOVE authoring their Write Brain Books! Their ability to focus and create a story through a collaborative process with their peers far surpassed our expectations.”

“They were able to listen to each other’s stories, that had the same pictures, and they were completely open to the fact that those stories could be different. What the kids discovered was that they brought their own lens and language to that story. The children walk away with a deeper understanding of what it means to have perspective, to be flexible thinkers, to actually seek out and even enjoy perspective. I think that’s invaluable.”
